A Day in the Life of Our Russell Home Staff

We have the most amazing staff at Russell Home. Let’s begin the day with our 7am-3pm shift. Our “caring” caregivers on this shift begin getting our residents up at 7am to start their day. We have 23 residents that need to be taken care of. The caregivers perform task such as personal hygiene, assisting at meal time, changing sheets, making beds, washing, drying, folding, and putting away laundry (lots of laundry), sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, straightening closets and noon medications. After breakfast, our residents go to class Monday thru Friday. Our amazing teachers are with them from 9:30am – 3:00pm. The residents and special needs day care clients all love class time. They have loads of fun with learning, cooking, piano, art classes and field trips.

The next shift to arrive is our 3pm-11pm shift. Our “caring” caregivers on this shift take our residents and day care clients from the class room to the enclosed patio. They do activities with them such as exercising, game time, golf cart rides and free time. Dinner begins at 4:30pm. Our staff are always with our special needs residents during meals. At 5:30pm it’s wind down time for them, watch tv etc. Around 6:00pm medications are given then shower time starts. It needs to start this early because when you have 23 residents and laundry “again” it’s necessary to start at that time. After the residents are in bed the staff will clean the classroom, patio, game room and complete laundry.

The last shift of the evening works 11pm-7am. Our “caring” caregivers on this shift keep watch over them during the night. They also do cleaning, meal prep for the next day, then medications at 6am.

Lastly, we have an amazing office, nurse, cooking, and maintenance staff. There is so much that goes into what we do in the office every day with pertaining to client and employee records, schedules, to fund raising and that is just a hint of what needs to get accomplished on a daily basis. Our nurse has the challenging and important task of medications, Dr. appointments and keeping them all healthy. Our busy, busy cooks prepare 90 meals per day. Lots of dishes, meal prep, keeping the pantry and refrigerator clean and organized. Our maintenance staff has the task of fixing things, getting supplies to the caregivers, outside and inside maintenance, receiving product and so much more.

Everyone here at Russell Home has a difficult job, but it’s one that is rewarding beyond measure in so many ways. We all love our residents and they love us. I believe we all get more out of working here than anyone could ever know. I think one of our staff said it best “It’s not like coming to work, it’s like Russell Home is my extended family that I get to see and enjoy them all every day.”

All that I have just fore mentioned barely scratches the surface in the day to day business at Russell Home, but at the end of the day we know it’s “you” the supporters of Russell Home that allows us to do what we do best. Your support, encouragement and love make it all possible. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
